Manjari
Manjari is a versatile Indian playback singer who has made a significant mark in the world of film music. She was introduced to the industry by renowned composer Ilaiyaraaja in the Sathyan Anthikad film “Achuvinte Amma.” In her debut movie, she sang two songs, a duet titled “Swasathin Thalam” with Dr. K.J. Yesudas and a solo song called “Tamarakuruvikku.” Since then, she has collaborated with esteemed composers such as Ramesh Narayan, Ilayaraaja, M. G. Radhakrishnan, Kaithapram Viswanathan, Vidyasagar, M. Jayachandran, Ouseppachan, Mohan Sithara, and the late Raveendran Master and Johnson Master. Manjari has also lent her voice to albums like Balabhaskar’s “Mazhayil Aaro Oral.” She has an extensive discography of over 300 songs in Malayalam, Tamil, and Telugu films, as well as several albums.
In addition to her work in film music, Manjari is a talented Hindustani classical singer and has performed numerous concerts in India and around the world under the banner of “Soorya.” She has also gained popularity as a Ghazal singer and has performed in exclusive Ghazal shows, including the TV program “Khayal” on Media One TV, where she showcased popular Ghazals of yesteryears.
Manjari’s exceptional vocal talent and contribution to the music industry have been recognized with prestigious awards. She has received the Kerala State Film Award for Best Female Singer twice, in 2004 for the song “Mukilin makale” from the film “Makalku” and in 2008 for the song “Mullulla Murikkinmel” from “Vilapangalkappuram.” She has also been honored with the Sahir and Adeeb International Award in 2016 for her contribution to Urdu and the genre of Ghazals. Among the recipients, she was the only Indian and the youngest to receive the award in that year. The Sahir and Adeeb International Award has previously been bestowed upon eminent personalities and legends like Gulzar, Javed Akhtar, Kaifi Azmi, B R Chopra, Shabana Azmi, Sharmila Tagore, and Begum Bushra Rehman.
