Mithali Raj, an iconic figure in women’s cricket, is the captain of the Indian Women’s Cricket Team. Known for her exceptional leadership skills and batting prowess, she has made significant contributions to the growth and success of women’s cricket in India.

 

Mithali’s achievements and accolades speak volumes about her impact on the sport. She has been honored with the prestigious Padma Shri award, one of the highest civilian awards in India, and the Arjuna Award, recognizing her excellence in cricket. Her leadership has been instrumental in guiding the Indian Women’s Cricket Team to several notable victories.

 

In 2015, Mithali had a remarkable year where she received the Padma Shri Award and was named the Wisden India Cricketer of the Year, becoming the first woman to achieve this honor. Her contributions as a captain have been significant, and she led India to a historic T20 series win against Australia in Australia.

 

Mithali’s journey in international cricket began with a memorable unbeaten century against Ireland in Milton Keynes. Since then, she has consistently been a leading figure in women’s cricket worldwide. A defining moment in her career came in 2002 when she became the first woman cricketer to score a double century in any format of the game, achieving this feat against England.

 

Taking over the captaincy in 2005, Mithali led the Indian Women’s Cricket Team to the final of the World Cup, showcasing her ability to inspire and lead her team to success. Despite narrowly missing out on the title, she continued to lead the team and guided them to a commendable third-place finish in the 2009 Women’s World Cup.
