Nitin Chandrakant Desai
Nitin Chandrakant Desai is a renowned Indian art director, production designer, film producer, and television producer. He is best known for his exceptional work in Marathi and Hindi films, as well as his contributions to large-scale events such as the World Cultural Festival 2016 in Delhi.
Throughout his career spanning two decades, Nitin Desai has collaborated with some of the most acclaimed directors in the Indian film industry, including Ashutosh Gowariker, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Rajkumar Hirani, and Sanjay Leela Bhansali. He has played a pivotal role in the visual design and aesthetics of notable films such as “Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam” (1999), “Lagaan” (2001), “Devdas” (2002), “Jodhaa Akbar” (2008), and “Prem Ratan Dhan Payo” (2015). His exceptional art direction and production design have garnered him several accolades, including four National Film Awards for Best Art Direction and three Filmfare Best Art Direction Awards.
In 2002, Nitin Desai ventured into film production with his company Chandrakant Productions, and produced “Desh Devi,” a devotional film about Devi Mata of Kutch. Additionally, he established ND Studios, a sprawling 52-acre (21-hectare) facility in Karjat, Navi Mumbai, which has become a hub for film and television productions. Notable projects filmed at ND Studios include “Jodhaa Akbar” and the reality show “Bigg Boss.”
Nitin Desai’s passion for the arts began early in his life. He studied photography at the prestigious J.J. School of Art and L.S. Raheja School of Arts in Mumbai before venturing into the world of cinema. His artistic sensibilities and technical expertise have made him a sought-after professional in the industry, known for his ability to create visually stunning and immersive experiences for audiences.
