Richa Sharma
Richa Sharma, born on August 29, 1974, is an Indian playback singer known for her work in Bollywood films as well as devotional music. She has received recognition for her versatile singing style and has sung in various genres including Indian classical, light music, ghazals, folk songs, and film songs.
Richa Sharma received formal training in Indian classical and light music under the guidance of Pandit Aaskaran Sharma. She expanded her repertoire by adding ghazals, Punjabi and Rajasthani folk songs, and film songs to her singing style, allowing her voice to reach a wider audience with diverse sounds.
In 1994, Richa Sharma moved to Mumbai, leaving her academic education behind, to pursue a career in the music industry. She initially sang cover versions and bhajans to sustain herself while struggling to establish herself in Bollywood. Her debut in Bollywood came in 1996 with the film “Salma Pe Dil Aa Gaya,” directed by Sawan Kumar. She went on to sing for several films, and her breakthrough came with the song “Taal Se Taal Mila” in the film “Taal,” composed by A.R. Rahman.
After the success of “Taal,” Richa Sharma delivered a series of hit songs in various films, collaborating with renowned composers such as A.R. Rahman, Anu Malik, Ram Sampath, Jatin-Lalit, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Sandesh Shandilya, Vishal-Shekhar, and more. Some of her notable film songs include “Zubeidaa,” “Saathiya,” “Hera Pheri,” “Khakee,” “Baghban,” “Rudraksh,” “Kal Ho Naa Ho,” “Gangajal,” “Popcorn Khao Mast Ho Jao,” “Saawariya,” and “Om Shanti Om.” She also lent her voice to the popular song “Mahi Ve” in the film “Kaante.”
Apart from playback singing, Richa Sharma has released several albums to showcase her talent. Albums like “Ni Main Yaar Nu Sajda Kardi,” “Piya,” and “Winds of Rajasthan” have highlighted the depth and versatility of her voice as a singer.
